ABOUT US

Venango County has a long and impactful history. Col. Drake drilled the first ever oil well here, we started the oil industry. At one point in time, 90% of every oil transaction that took place globally, went through Oil City at the heart of Venango. You can see the remnants of this golden age all throughout the county. Oil City is laid out like a miniature metropolis, complete with small skyscrapers and everything. The historic houses left from that time are massive and ornate, showing off just how much money was actually flowing through western Pennsylvania at that time. Unfortunately, all things must come to an end, the oil titans moved on once the wells dried up. Luckily we have so much more to offer than just oil. We have history, beautiful sights, gorgeous rivers and streams, mountains to conquer, and food that will make your mouth water.
If you enjoy the outdoors in any capacity, Venango can accommodate you. If you're a photographer, we have a wide range of landscapes just waiting for you. We have a ton of wildlife, if you're patient enough to catch them. If you prefer biking, we lie at the middle of the Pittsburgh to Erie bike trail, with 38 mile of our own beautiful trail that lets you ride right beside the Allegheny river and through 2 massive train tunnels. We also have mountain bike trails carved all over our parks if you're looking for something more strenuous. Perhaps you enjoy the water more than the woods. We have X miles of traversable waterways that are ideal for kayaking, tubing, fishing, or just sticking your feet in and enjoying the cool water.
